Are Other Artificial Sweeteners Safer?
WHO has warned against the use of non-sugar sweetener (NSS) several times in the past.As per the guidelines shared by WHO, avoiding the use of NSS can help control body weight or reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases."Replacing free sugars with NSS does not help with weight control in the long term. People need to consider other ways of reducing free sugar intake, such as naturally occurring sugary foods, such as Consuming fruit or sugar-free foods and drinks. People should completely cut out sugar from their diets early in life to improve their health," said Francesco Branca, WHO director of nutrition and food safety.
WHO has also listed the commonly used artificial sweeteners that one should avoid. These include aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia and stevia derivatives of acesulfame.
