Nose bleeding is generally classified into two types: anterior nose bleed and posterior nose bleed.

Causes of this nose bleed can often include dry air, irritation, scratching the nose, or minor trauma to the nasal passages. Anterior nose bleeds are generally less serious and can be easily managed.

Posterior nose bleed: Posterior nose bleed is one of the more serious types of nose bleeds, and may be caused by a serious illness, tumor, or other medical condition. During posterior nose bleed, the veins inside the nose and those connecting to the brain can also be affected, causing excessive bleeding from the nose. Conditions such as posterior nosebleeds can occur due to a blockage in the back of the nose. In this, blood flows downwards from the back of the nose and can reach the throat. Bleeding from the back of the nose can be dangerous, and such a situation may require immediate contact with a doctor.

Sudden nose bleeding is often considered a symptom related to conditions like dry nose, cold and lack of oxygen, but sometimes it can also be a sign of some disease. Sudden nose bleeding may also be a symptom of epistaxis. Although epistaxis or sudden nose bleeding is not a serious problem, in many cases it can become dangerous for the person.

Other Causes of nosebleed

  • Dry and hot indoor air can dry out the nasal passages, making blood vessels more likely to burst.
  • Scratching the inside of the nose or putting a finger in the nose can cause minor injury to the blood vessels.
  • Burning sensation can be the cause of nosebleed. Exposure to irritants such as smoke, chemicals or strong odors can also cause nosebleeds.
  • Allergic reactions can cause swelling and irritation in the nasal passages, increasing the chances of nose bleeding.
  • Infections like cold and sinusitis can result in nasal congestion and increase the chances of nose bleeding.
  • Any type of trauma to the nose, such as a blow to the face can cause bleeding.
